Nick Barmby fulfilled a childhood dream when he crossed Stanley Park to join the Reds during the summer in a ? million deal, becoming the first player since legendary striker Dave Hickson in 1959 to move directly from Everton to Liverpool. An England international, 26-year-old Barmby is a player blessed with great vision and enjoyed one of his most consistent season's last year with Everton, scoring 10 goals from midfield. His form for the Blues earned a call-up to Kevin Keegan's squad for Euro 2000 and substitute appearances against Germany and Romania during the group stages of the tournament. His versatility presents Gérard Houllier with a number of options in midfield, and attack, and represents a quality addition to a formidable looking squad.
