Patrik Berger enjoyed an outstanding 1999-2000 season, hitting nine goals from midfield including stunning strikes against Manchester United at Old Trafford and Leeds at Anfield. A renowned dead ball specialist, Berger's all action style and endless running has endeared him to the hearts of Anfield supporters. Unfortunately suspension ruled him out of the opening two group games for the Czech Republic in Euro 2000, and the side certainly missed his explosive long range shooting and creative talent. He played in the final group game where Reds star Vladmir Smicer scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Denmark, but the team failed to qualify.
