German star Dietmar Hamann added a new dimension to the Liverpool midfield last season, forging an excellent partnership with outstanding youngster Steven Gerrard in the absence of injured skipper Jamie Redknapp. His campaign had got off to a frustrating start, with an early season injury set-back, but once restored to the side Hamann impressed with his excellent vision and passing skills. With an explosive shot from dead ball situations, he will no doubt hope to add to the single goal he scored last term from a spectacular free-kick in the 3-1 Anfield victory against Leeds United.

Hamann joined new Liverpool recruit Markus Babbel in a disappointing Germany side for Euro 2000, playing in all three of their group games against Romania, Portugal and England.
